-
In piano lessons, you'll learn fundamental techniques, music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and repertoire spanning various genres. We'll focus on building a strong foundation while exploring music that inspires you.
-
I use a combination of traditional and contemporary teaching methods tailored to each student's learning style and goals. Lessons are structured to be engaging, interactive, and enjoyable.
-
I set a range of short- and long-term goals tailored to each student's individual aspirations and abilities. These goals encompass various aspects of musical development, including technique, repertoire mastery, performance skills, musical expression, and theoretical understanding. Our structured approach ensures steady progress and fosters a sense of achievement and fulfillment in our students' musical journey.
-
The study of music theory, sight reading, and ear training are integral components meticulously integrated into our comprehensive yearly lesson plan. These foundational elements are carefully structured to enhance students' musical understanding and develop essential skills, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching learning experience.
-
The frequency of lessons depends on your goals, schedule, and level of commitment. Typically, weekly lessons are recommended for consistent progress, but twice-weekly or flexible options are also available.
-
Certainly. We highly encourage our students to prepare for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams as they offer valuable benchmarks for musical progress and achievement. Participation in RCM exams not only helps students develop technical proficiency and musical understanding but also fosters confidence and discipline in their musical studies.

Yes, students in Ontario can earn high school credits by completing certain RCM levels. For example, successfully completing Level 7 Practical and Theory can qualify for a Grade 11 music credit, while Level 8 Practical and Theory can qualify for a Grade 12 credit.
-
Absolutely! Students can receive one credit for Level 7 and one for Level 8 in different years. This allows them to earn a Grade 11 credit in one school year and a Grade 12 credit the next. Certainly. For private lessons involving children under 17 years old, parental presence is required. This ensures effective communication between the teacher, parents, and students, facilitating note-taking during the class and supporting the establishment of a consistent practice routine at home.
-
While having a piano at home is ideal, it's not required for beginners. You can start with a keyboard or digital piano for practice until you're ready to invest in an acoustic piano.
-
The amount of practice depends on your level and goals:
Early-Elementary & Upper-Elementary Levels: Aim for 30 to 40 minutes daily to build strong foundations and develop key skills gradually.
Early-Intermediate & Upper-Intermediate Levels: Practice 45 minutes to 1 hour a day to refine technique and repertoire.
Advanced & Diploma Levels: At this stage, aim for 1 to 1.5 hours of practice per day to focus on advanced pieces and technique.
Consistent, focused practice is key to steady progress.
-
Drawing from years of experience, we’ve found that the duration of lessons plays a crucial role in supporting each student’s progress. For early learners, 40 minutes provides a comprehensive and unrushed experience. Intermediate students benefit from 60-minute lessons that allow for more in-depth exploration of technique and repertoire. Advanced students require 80 minutes to tackle more complex material and to hone their artistry effectively.
